AmeriCorps Position The Medomak Valley Land Trust has an 11 to 12 month, full-time AmeriCorps position available starting October 1st, 2008. Job Description: MVLT seeks a dependable and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Outreach and Stewardship Specialist (OSS). The OSS will work to raise awareness and knowledge of the Medomak River through outreach, educational and stewardship activities. Activities include working with MVLT’s Outreach Committee to recruit additional volunteers, promoting a community trail program that increases community involvement in MVLT, and enhancing the systems and organization of MVLT’s volunteer Stewardship program to promote its self-sufficiency. The OSS will also work to raise awareness and knowledge of the Medomak River through educational programs and outreach activities – coordinating a Conservation Forum, a “photograph our towns” exhibit, continuing presentations of “Wings over the Watershed,” organizing trail coalition meetings, and developing outreach materials for other activities. Twenty-five percent of time will be devoted to working with the Alewife Restoration Project on fish counting and fishway development and approximately 30% of time will be spent on fieldwork. The ideal candidate will be reliable, detail-oriented, and committed to quality work; have computer, writing and public speaking skills; and be interested in the outdoors and land conservation. This is an 11 to 12 month AmeriCorps position.
Compensation:
The AmeriCorps member will receive a stipend from the AmeriCorps program in the amount of $11,100 for an 11 to 12 month employment period. The member is eligible for medical insurance, and child care benefits. At the end of service, members are eligible to collect an education award in the amount of $4,725 to pay off past student loans or future education.
