MVLT Plans to Create New Trails

April 2008

Medomak Valley Land Trust’s stewardship committee has set some ambitious goals for the spring, including creating new trails to Mill Pond and the top of Clarry Hill, as well as a network of trails at the Burkett Mill Preserve that will be available for hiking in the summer and skiing in the winter. Quarry Hill Protected with Conservation Easement

November 2007

On November 19th, representatives from the town and MVLT signed into effect the Quarry Hill Conservation Easement, permanently protecting the 320-acre town-owned property. Located off of Depot Street, the Quarry Hill Farm is home to scenic forests, cultivated fields, and wild blueberries. The easement will ensure that Quarry Hill remains undeveloped in perpetuity, preserving the land’s rural character while allowing for low-impact recreation, forestry and agricultural activities. Bremen Long Island Parcel Under Easement

October 2007

This October, MVLT received a forever-wild easement on an 18-acre parcel on Bremen Long Island. The property contains several features that contribute to its local conservation value, including undeveloped shore frontage, important wading bird and waterfowl habitat, adjacency to other conserved lands, and scenic views from the waters of Muscongus Bay. The parcel was originally donated to The Nature Conservancy in 1996 as a trade land, and the history behind this project provides an interesting illustration of a different charitable donation tool and a unique way to conserve a property. MVLT is thrilled to welcome Charlie Witherell to the Board of Directors. Charlie is an active member of MVLT's Stewardship and Finance Committees and has worked with the office over the past year to create our new database system.
