Matthews Museum of Maine Heritage
The Matthews Museum of Maine Heritage is located at the Union Fairgrounds in Union, Maine. Its exhibits include thousands of items which depict the early life in Maine. Most of the items were donated to the Union Fair by residents of Union and the surrounding towns. One item is a one room school house used by the children in the town of Union.
The museum was created and maintained by the Union Fair organization. For many years it has been popular with fair attendees. The museum has been open to the public, for a small fee, during July and August. During June and September it is open by appointment.
The museum has recently re-organized as a separate 501(c)3 entity. This step will enhance the museum for people interested in contributing to this repository of items of Maine historical significance. It should be noted that this step does not change the operating mode. It will still be opened during the same periods and free during the Union Fair.
