Matthias Hawes's diary

A reference used by Ben Ames Williams in his book "Come Spring" was a diary by Matthias Hawes. This diary is also attributed to be a source of information by John Sibley in his book "History of Union, Maine" published in 1851. This diary has been discussed with the local Hawes family and its current existence or whereabouts is unknown. It is thought that the diary may be with a California branch of the family. The UHS would like to obtain a copy of this diary, if it still exists, to be part of their collection. If anyone knows of the existence of this document please contact the UHS at their email address: unionhis@hotmail.com or by telephone or snail mail.

Any information will be greatly appreciated.
