Bridges to the Past Union, Maine Bridges to the past Union, Maine The book consists mainly of about 300 well restored and current images. Most images are captioned, dated and have not been previously published. Included are recent images. Many are shown in "then and now" fashion. Most chapters are introduced with a short quotation from Ben Ames Williams' "Come Spring".

There is a short summary of Union history since 1974, when 200 Years in Union was published. The book includes a collection of images by Todd Caverly, a resident of Union and professional architectural photographer. Warren Hills wrote a "Tour of Union Village" in 1917; we've added modern house numbers and a map so that our readers may take that tour.

The authors are Dave Shaub and Ruth E. Shaw, both of Union. Dave is an active officer of the society; it was he who took several hundred pictures of Union's old houses, barns, and outbuildings in the last few years. Ruth is a professional book compositor, editor, and expert in the use of computers in publishing. Thanks are appropriate to all society members for their interest and support. The cost is $30 + shipping.

Come Spring Come Spring: This 1940 historical novel by Ben Ames Williams tells the story of the early settlers Mima Robbins and her husband Joel Adams. The narrative is based on incidents recounted in Sibley's History and on local research by Williams.
