Midcoast Internet Solutions modem banks

Most Basic-service subscribers are assigned an IP number each time they connect. This is called dynamic IP. Static IP numbers can be given out too, if your internet needs or operating system require it.

Dedicated 28.8 customers

Dedicated 28.8 customers are assigned a static (never changes) IP number and a subnet with a 27-bit netmask for a block 32 numbers. (upto 30 hosts). Our modem servers do not accept routing requests from customers for security concerns. Static routes are automatically checked every 20 minutes and rebuilt, so your network will be routed properly in a period of less than 20 minutes after re-connection. If this does not happen, make sure your routes are set up properly and then phone us and send email to jp@midcoast.com from your account on our server.

For customer owned equipment with persistant problems (frequent disconnects or lockups) it may be in your best interests to allow us to make recommendations on modems or networking hardware. We can sell you to the right equipment for the job which we will warrant the fitness of its use. Our goal is to keep the connection as reliable as possible. If you are frequently disconnected, it might be your router's modem. We've found US Robotics external and internal modems and Practical Periphials internal modems to be very reliable. These three have been thoroughly tested and known to work, but other modems will likely work well too. In the interest of reliability, you might also want to have a small UPS (uninteruptable power supply) for the machine that connects your network to the internet.

Dedicated 28.8k customers also receive 3 email accounts on midcoast.com as well as 20MB on the server for files and web pages.

56k DDS-II or Frame Relay Customers

Dedicated 56k service customers are assigned a 27 bit (30 computers) subnet or a 24 bit class-C (254 computers) subnet depending on your computer network's needs. Your routes are statically routed to your location from one of our routers. If your line should fail, phone us and/or page us (you are one of a few people who can have Jason's page number). We can help resolve the problem quickly. If the phone company dosent seems to know what the problem is, or if there is some sort of long-term equipment failure, we can set you up to use a 28.8k dedicated connection in the interim in place of the router and 56k. We can set this up in a few hours notice which can help tremendously in increasing your reliability and fault tolerance.

56k customers will also receive upto six email accounts on midcoast.com and space for upto 20MB of files and web pages.


Consulting Services

Midcoast Internet Solutions also provides consulting services for many businesses in the area. We are experienced with setting up Wide Area Networks for TCP-IP, the networking protocol used by the internet. We can configure, sell, and maintain 56k to T1 routers from a variety of companies.
