News & Notices
December 1997
- December 30, 1997 Between 11:00am and 11:30am, an ethernet
problem at the Rockland POP caused problems for some users. This has been
fixed.
- December 29, 1997 We reset a couple of hung modems in Rockland
late in the afternoon, and also phones in a problem with the X2 hunting to
Bell Atlantic. One of the X2 lines was ringing busy instead of answering.
- December 27, 1997 A routing problem in Portland caused one of
our nine blocks of IP numbers not to work on the internet for a time this
evening. Some users were unable to get out of midcoast during this time. Email
traffic and web-hosting were not affected, just some users' access to sites
outside of midcoast.com. We will be keeping an eye on this for you.
- December 24, 1997 Merry Christmas! The Million Hit contest
is over. Next week, we will be gathering information from the winners and
helping with the choice of prizes Wednesday.
- December 19, 1997 We have just ordered 48 more lines. We will
be hooking up 10-20 lines over the next week. The 48 new lines will be
installed in one month.
- December 19, 1997 5:00pm. We have a webcam looking down over Main St. Rockland.
It will look very pretty with some snow on the ground :-)
- December 15, 1997 Noon. One of our T1's was down, which may
affect some users. Bell Atlantic was notified immediately. We will keep
you posted. Bell Atlantic had it fixed by 2:44 pm. BA claimed it was a
"power surge", which I don't buy, because no other circuits were affected.
- December 14, 1997 4:00-5:20pm. Random trouble with our link to
bangor was discovered. We just got the report on that, and it was yet
again, a Bell Atlantic trouble in Bangor where we connect.
- December 10, 1997 0:00-0:30. While on our upgrade streak, we
will take dns down for about 10 minutes to move it to a roomier case and
add prepare for other upgrades.
- December 9, 1997 3:00 pm. Our ISDN server got a memory upgrade
which took about 10 minutes.
- December 9, 1997 0:00-0:30. The webservers c6h22o11 and
sumatra will be out of service for about 10 minutes each for a hardware
upgrade. A new motherboard, faster Pentium chip, and faster disk
controller will be installed.
- December 3, 1997 8:00-11:00 pm. We have blocked off some AOL email
servers for a few hours because of AOL users mailbombing MIS users with
thousands of messages (who's intent was to foul up the system). This
block will be lifted as soon as my call is returned from the AOL NOC, or
when the system can handle the mailbomb easier (11pm). Mail sent to or
from AOL will not be lost, but could possibly have been delayed during
this time.
- December 2, 1997 The State of Maine has fixed the
all-important weather page that we link to from www.midcoast.com.
- December 2, 1997 9:15pm. The webserver software on
www.midcoast.com stopped for about 10 minutes. (Unplanned) All other
services were unaffected.
