News & Notices
December 1999
- Dec 31, 1999 This afternoon, some people had trouble retrieving
email residing on kona/free mailserver. This has been fixed. This did not
disrupt any incoming messages, just peoples ability to check for new mail.
- Dec 22, 1999 At some point later this afternoon, we've been
promised that newsgroups will work for customers who get 12.25.52.x IP
numbers.
- Dec 19, 1999 10:30am. Our C&W T1 is down, this is affecting
internet service for some people. It has been reported to C&W and we
will keep you postted. 11:40. It is fixed. C&W tested it, and then we
reset our equipment at the conclusion of the tests and it's OK.
- Dec 16, 1999 12:00am. Our third incoming T1 from the internet
backbone is operational now. Throught the day, some traffic will be
diverted to flow over this. This addition will gradually make things
faster for people in late afternoon/evening times.
- Dec 15, 1999 8:45pm. zoombrew2 was rebooted due to an
accidental routing problem. This took about 2 minutes.
- Dec 14, 1999 Damariscotta 24 new lines were added to the
563 6622 modem group at 2:30 PM. Some interruption of service was
neccessary to facilitate the installation.
- Dec 13, 1999 8:45 Damariscotta Three lines will be taken out of service from the 563-6644 hunt
group for a short time Monday morning. This will last less than one hour. This is facilitating the Telco swapping
some pairs to make way for a additional 24 lines. The new lines are scheduled to be added to the 563-6622 dial group
tomorrow.
- Dec 12, 1999 12:20 am. Power returned in Liberty after a short
storm-related outage (which outlived our UPS)
- Dec 8, 1999 Washington and Liberty T1 slowness problems
that we inquired with Bell Atlantic (BA) about on Dec 6 has been
investigated by BA. Our T1 between Washington and Owls Head actually goes
through the Bangor BA central office, and there is insufficient capacity
in Bangor, causing the slowdown. Lots of data-network people have had
problems. BA is promising to upgrade this Friday in Bangor, and we should
be back to full speed on Friday or Monday. I may ask for a refund on a
month's T1 bill and perhaps we should use this refund (if we get one) for
throwing a party for Washington and Liberty customers.
- Dec 8, 1999 Washington modems 1pm-4pm. Work was done on
the Washington lines to correct problems which some people experienced
dialing in. This work was completed about 4 pm. A couple of lines were
messed up and modem equipment had to be tested and reset. We also added 6
lines to the group. These new lines are physically installed and hooked up
and Northland will be appending them to our hunt group before 4pm
tomorrow.
- Dec 8, 1999 1pm kona.midcoast.com had to have its web server software restarted. http services from this machine
were unavailable for about 3 minutes.
- Dec 8, 1999 Several reports of "fast busies" have been received from users of the 5636622 number in the
Damariscotta area. We re-checked our systems and have asked Tidewater to investigate from their side. We are showing as many
as 12 open ports at the times indicated in the reports. Note: Trouble reorts without times can be unusable when it comes
to tracking down events.
- Dec 8, 1999 morning. JP will be in Washington to troubleshoot a
flaky modem and add a few new ones.
- Dec 7, 1999 4:00pm. A few customers were unable to get outside
of midcoast.com. We have found the problem and are working with the proper
folks to get it fixed. 4:07pm. That problem is fixed.
- Dec 7, 1999Nameservice software was updated to the newest
version today due to potential security flaws in older versions. This
should not cause any problems.
- Dec 7, 199912:15am. MIS will be moving our C&W connection
off of zoombrew and onto another router named zoombrew2. Zoombrew had been
causing trouble, and this is being done in the interest of reliability
first. 1:00am. This upgrade went very well. Service was interupted for
less than one minute and everything went as planned.
- Dec 6. 1999 The T1 servicing Washington and Liberty is much
(5x) slower than normal. We think this is a Bell Atlantic problem and have
notified them. We'll keep you posted.
- Dec 1, 1999 More lines have been ordered and we will provide
updates as installation date gets closer. One group of lines for Camden,
Rockland, Waldoboro, and Belfast will have 46 lines added. The other group
for those same towns will have 23 lines added. Washington will be getting
V.90 service shortly after the new year (24 new 56k lines there). Hurray
to Northland for providing that upgrade.
- Dec 1, 1999 5:00pm. Damariscotta/Union 56k lines are acting up.
There are open ports on the systems, but users are getting sporadic
fast-busies or nothing or sometimes a modem. We have called Tidewater
about the problem. 5:50pm. This has been fixed.
