News & Notices
January 2000
- Jan 30, 2000 dns.midcoast.com had a sucessful replacement of
RAM and power supply. This was done as a preventative measure to keep
things running smoothly.
- Jan 28, 2000 Long awaited additional lines from Bell Atlantic
were wired in today. We will be configuring the modem server equipment for
these lines over the weekend, as there is a possibility that Bell Atlantic
might be able to finish programming the lines on Monday!
- Jan 25, 2000 7:50-8:10pm. dns.midcoast.com had to be restarted.
This interupted logins during this period. We will be scheduling a
early morning maintenance in the near future to replace the memory in
the server.
- Jan 20, 2000 9:15-9:30pm. our main router zoombrew2 had
some trouble and had to be restarted. This caused a loss of internet
for most people during that time.
- Jan 18, 2000 9:20am. Yesterday, MIS changed the IP addresses
that the modem server nodoze was assigning to those of our ATT T1
connection. In order to protect our mail systems from abuse, we do not
allow relaying of mail from our mail servers, unless expressly stated in
the mail configuration file. The new addresses were not added to the file
until this AM. This caused people using the nodoze modem server in
Damariscotta to have trouble sending mail using lincoln.midcoast.com
addresses from last night through this morning.
- Jan 17, 2000 4:10pm. A 56k access number has been setup for
Washignton. The number is 845-2002, and there are 24 new lines in this
huntgroup!
- Jan 13, 2000 12:25-12:45pm. DNS (www.midcoast.com) was
restarted. This was attended to very quickly, but it takes a while for the
machine to boot up.
- Jan 10, 2000 10:00pm. Washington (845 exchange) is experiencing
an extended power outage which has outlasted the UPS there. Power returned
at about 11:15pm.
- Jan 10, 2000 9:00pm. Liberty (589 exchange) is experiencing an
extended power outage which has outlasted the UPS there.
- Jan 10, 2000 5:50 - 6:00pm. A problem with a router put the
Damariscotta part of MIS off the internet for a couple of minutes. This
was quickly fixed.
- Jan 7, 2000 11:40am. There is a problem in Washington DC
between the C&W and Worldcom's network. This is not even close to us,
but it appears to be an important internet path which is causing trouble.
- Jan 7, 2000 Many midcoast.com users were unable to send or
receive mail from 7am to 8am this morning. This was corrected at 8am.
- Jan 6, 2000 The Damariscotta office will not open today until
11 am. MIS is having a staff meeting this morning, Thursday January 6th.
We apologize for any inconvienience this may cause.
- Jan 5, 2000 11:30am. A T1 problem in Portland or Boston is
preventing some people from getting outside of the midcoast network. This
is being worked on. This has been corrected at Noon.
- Jan 4, 2000 There has been a perceived problem with the news
server recently not letting in access to as many people as it should.
We've reported this to the people in charge of the news server and will
keep you updated. Hopefully it won't take long to fix.
- Jan 3, 2000 3:15pm. We replaced one of the versanet modem
servers (jolt) for 593-9397 which had trouble. Apologies to the couple of
people might have gotten knocked off line during the switchover. Last
Thursday morning a power supply fan failed, causing it to overheat and
shut itself down. We had a temporary fan hooked up till new parts arrived
by fedex. The new parts didn't fix it, so we took the server out of
service and plugged it's 23 lines into a new chassis (which we had kicking
around while waiting for more lines from BA). The old modem server will be
repaired and put into service without any disruption.
