News & Notices
July 1996 Archive
- Wednesday 07/31/1996 Wiscasset and the Boothbay
Region are now served by Midcoast Internet Solutions. We just
completed our modem server and have 8 lines in place at 882-9664. Contact
our Damariscotta office (support@lincoln.midcoast.com or 563-3098) if
you'd like access to it. This modem server supports Auto-Detect PAP
Authentication, meaning you wont need a terminal window to login with
Windows 95. Information about PAP automatic authentication is here.
- Tuesday 07/30/1996 A notice regarding 845 exchange expansion
for washington customers is here.
- Sunday 07/28/1996 9:30-10:00am Sprint, somewhere in Boston or NY
hiccuped, causing many sites to be unreachable.
- Wednesday 07/24/1996 noon-2pm Nynex was here moving some
cables around. Some people may have received a busy or no answer for
brief periods during the course of this work.
- Monday 07/22/1996 Dan
Graf made a *nice* cgi-based interactive help system for us to use
experimentally. Check it out here.
- We are planning another internet workshop, to be held at the Owls Head Transportation Museum. We are not ready to
announce the date.
- Friday 07/19/1996 Service friday at about suppertime was not
available for approximately half an hour, due to something beyond
our control with portland<-->boston link.
- Monday 07/15/1996Windows 95 users in the 785 and
845 calling area can have a much easier time connecting to the
internet now. The instructions to this optional change are located here.
- Monday 07/15/1996The Nynex thing is almost fixed. Some of
the new lines were fixed, others had an out-of-service recording. A phone
call to Nynex repair was placed immediately.
- Saturday 07/13/1996 Did you get a BUSY signal?Nynex
screwed up the hunt group. This
meant that if you dialed in and got a busy signal today, we still had a half
dozen free modems here, and half a dozen phone lines were not functional.
This problem was reported immedietly and Nynex thinks they'll fix it in
24-36 hours. :^(. Despite my hunch that no one knows what the
other is doing at Nynex.
- Wednesday 07/09/1996 9pm. A busy signal was noticed. While
its nice to see people using the internet, its much worse to know
that someone might not have been able to get online. 6 lines,
which have been undergoing testing had recently been scheduled to be
added to the
hunt group in a few hours. (just in time) These should serve nicely until
we can get more lines installed and tested. (We like to test them for a
while first)
- Sunday 07/07/1996 12pm. Union/Washington Modem users
show up in the Who is on
the modems? Page.
- Friday 07/05/1996 11pm. Services for the 563 exchange were
re-arranged to use a seperate modem server, hazelnut, and a brand
new screamin' machine, by the familiar name of lincoln, to provide
email and web services. We think everything went over quite well, but if
you see any differences in the way it works, good or bad, drop a note to
Webmaster@midcoast.com.
- Friday 07/05/1996 4am. The modem servers are back in
business. They were rewired and moved to a beautiful and neatly organized
cabinet of twice the size. This was necessary to make room for more modems.
- Wednesday 07/03/11996. The Web BBS is back online. It's new
home is at http://c6h22o11.midcoast.com/bbs/wwwboard.html.
- Modem Service for 596, 236, and 354 will not be available from
10:30pm to 1:00am on the night of July 4. This disruption is
necessary to move modems to a larger and more expandable enclosure. It
will allow us to add many more modems.
