- July 30, 1998 An ethernet card in the Rockland POP was
destroyed, and the switch partitioned half of the Rockland POP for about
15 minutes due to heavy and direct lightning. All is fine now.
This caused some people's internet to not work for about 15 minutes.
- July 29, 1998 A security
glitch has been discovered in the email portion of Microsoft and
Netscape's mail software. Eudora users are not affected.
- July 27, 1998 X2 lines were reset to take care of a
problem this afternoon.
- July 27, 1998 The new certificate was installed on
www.midcoast.com at 3:15 this afternoon. It is a Thawte secure server
certificate.
- July 27, 1998 The Union POP was upgraded to the new MCI IP
numbers today. This affected connectivity for about 30 seconds
mid-afternoon.
- July 27, 1998 We should be receiving a new secure
certificate any day now, to replace the test certificate installed on
https://www.midcoast.com/
- July 21, 1998 Another mis-behaving X2 line was detected and
fixed today.
- July 20, 1998 Just fixed a problem with an X2 line which was
mis-behaving and going silent after answering.
- July 19, 1998 1pm sharp. MELUG (Maine Linux Users Group)
monthly meeting will be hosted at our Rockland Office. MELUG meets most
every month at various locations around the state for people interested in
Linux. There is no cost or obligation.
- July 16, 1998 DNS was rebooted quickly for about two minutes
at 12:10am.
- July 15, 1998 Two ring-no-answer problems were diagnosed and
repaired today.
- July 12, 1998 On the 11th and today, the Maine Schools and
Library Network has been unreachable by us and other ISPs around the
country. This causes the MSLN connected to be unable to communicate with
ISPs and vice-versa. This is an MSLN problem and we can not provide any
timeline or information regarding it's repair.
- July 10, 1998 should be the first morning that
time is computed with the new extended hours.
- July 8, 1998 A newsletter is being sent out, and you should
receive it sometime today or tomorrow. A copy of the newsletter is here.
- July 8, 1998 free.midcoast.com users were unable to use
free.midcoast.com for a short period during the afternoon during a
sendmail upgrade. Any free.midcoast.com problems should be reported to
webmaster@midcoast.com.
- July 8, 1998 One of the 596-2430 numbers and one X2 line were
diagnosed and repaired today.
- July 7, 1998 More lines for Washington are to be installed on
July 16. The phone company will be hooking them up for us by the 15th.
- July 3, 1998 Have an enjoyable Fourth of July weekend!
