July 1999
- July 27, 1999 10:00am 596-2430 usage should be reduced.
Alternatives which you can permanentaly switch to are 593-9332, 593-8000,
593-9397. 236-4098 usage should be moved away from as well.
Alternatives are 236-2809 and 236-2266. 354-8749 callers may want
to call the Rockland or Waldoboro number (whichever is local for your
situation.)
- July 25, 1999 12:30am Power is out at the Damariscotta NOC and
Mr Generator comes to the rescue! Looks like the link to the DSL test in
Lincolnville is down. Update 2:30am: All of the this area is out, must be
one of those scheduled outages. Wiscasset is still up, so we assume power
is good there, as it appears to be in Alna and Bristol as well.
......bet if I had a newspaper, a notice would be in there! Update 2:45am
Power is back.
- July 20, 1999 5:32pm. Wiscasset is back online. All I had to do
was to fix their hardware problem. The BA terminator in Wiscasset was
stuck in loopback mode. The card was reseated and the circuit was
restored. We will continue to monitor this circuit for the quality
concerns that caused us to have them test it in the first place.
- July 20, 1999 4:15pm Wiscasset. BA put there equipment on the
line, and it tested fine to them, but the circuit to Wisc will not come
back. In order to prove without a shadow of a doubt that it is indeed a
Telco problem (which they insist it isn't) we are replacing ALL of our
equipment that runs the data line, with known working hardware.
- July 20, 1999 We are seeing a high incidence of errors on the
T1 that runs between Damariscotta and Wiscasset. Although it is
functioning, enough errors are occuring on a regular basis to potentially
present problems with authentication and data transfer. We are confident
that it is a Telco problem and have called BA to have the circuit tested.
- July 20, 1999 2:40pm Our main server, DNS, suffered a Main
Board failure at approximately 1:34 pm. We were able to replace the board
and have service restored by the time of this message. No data was lost as
a result of this crash, and mail was spooled on another host within our
network.
- July 20, 199911:40am The Wiscasset T1 is back. We assume the
Telco's fixed whatever problem there was with the circuit, although the
indicate that there was nothing wrong with the circuit. (??)
- July 20, 199911:00am The T1 from Damariscotta to Wiscasset is
still down. It has been confirmed to be a Bell Atlantic Problem.
- July 20, 1999 7:45am The T1 from Damariscotta to Wiscasset is
down. Bell is being called. Service to Bath, Boothbay and Wiscasset areas
will be down until a repair is made. Update 10:00am : Power was cut to
the building housing the Wiscasset POP at 6am. Batteries died at 7:15.
The data circuit is still down and hardware tests are being performed.
- July 19, 1999 12:45pm. Two new 56k numbers are available now
to give people in Belfast, Islesboro, Lincolnville and Northport areas
more choices for better 56k compatibility. The numbers are 236-2266
and 338-8488. Some modems work better on the new numbers, some
modems work better on the existing V90 numbers, so we are providing
choices to make it better for you.
- July 19, 1999 10:30am. The T1 between Washington and Liberty
is still down, we are using the old 56k circuit for backup till Northland
fixes it.
- July 18, 1999 4:00pm. The T1 between Washington and Liberty is down. An onsite
visit has determined that it is very likely a Telco problem. Northland is being contacted.
Updated 6:10pm - Liberty is switched back to the old 56k circuit until Northland diagnoses
the T1.
- July 10, 1999 5:00pm. The T1 between Owls Head and Washington
is out of service. This services Washington and Liberty. The phone company
has been notified. Update: Northland fixed this at about 8:30pm.
- July 8, 1999 10:30am. The T1 between Owls Head and Damariscotta
is out of service due to a phone company problem. We have reported it and
hope BA can fix it right away. This affects logins and service for
Damariscotta, Union, and Wiscasset customers until it is fixed. Problem
fixed by Bell Atlantic at 3:20pm. There was a problem in the BA Rockland
central office.
- July 6, 1999 The 800 line is currently out of service. The server that
handled this line has taken it on the chin rather hard and will need replacing. We hope
to have it running again by the end of the day.
- July 6, 1999 We replaced a fried power-supply in Owls Head that
suffered lightning damage on the wireless link between Owls Head and
Camden. Wireless users not on this link were not affected.
- July 5, 1999 9:20pm A Bell Atlantic T3 is down. This circuit carries the
Frame Relay traffic that services Washington and Liberty and will prevent any traffic
toa nd from those pops. This is not an MIS solvable problem. BA has a ticket open on it.
We will update this as warranted. Update - The circuit was restored sometime
after 11pm.
- July 2, 1999 8:50pm Liberty was moved over to the T1 now.
Liberty is now serviced from a T1 from Washington instead of a 56k from
Owls Head. This should increase performance during peak times.
- July 2, 1999 2-3pm Washington's equipment was rebooted and the
router was changed during the thunder/lightning today. Another router was
put in which tied a T1 to Liberty.
