- Friday Evening, 06/29/1996 lincoln, the server for the 563
exchange modem bank is down for the evening for upgrades and rewiring.
Users of this server were emailed regarding the schedule plans for the
downtime. This shutdown was necessary to move to a bigger office and
prepare for a smooth upgrade for more modems and equipment.
- Wednesday, 06/26/1996 2% (two percent) of our accounts were
disabled due to insufficient payment. We truly hated to do it, but these
people did owe several thousand dollars collectively.
- Friday, Saturday, Sunday 06/21/1996 - 06/23/1996
Union/Washington customers may have had a difficult time connecting
during the bad weather. We are quite certain this was due to water in
Tidewater's telephone system.
- Sunday Night 06/23/1996 Caffeine's upgrade went faster then
expected, and was complete in 15 minutes out of the alloted 45. This
upgrade was a new hard drive, as we had reason to believe the other one
was failing. Also fixed was the finger daemon on caffeine. A finger
@caffeine should now reveal everybody logged into caffeine.
- We are planning another internet workshop. Date and Location are not
yet set.
- Friday Evening 06/21/1996 Looks like there are some problems
with MCI and sometimes sprint, at the internet's core routers. Some things
will work, others wont. Should be taken care of sometime this evening.
- Wednesday 06/19/1996 If 596/594 numbers are a local call for
you, and you are pretty competent with your internet software, we're
looking for a small number of power-user people wanting un-timed usage on
specific modem numbers to test their reliability before they are made
available to every one else. drop a note to jp@midcoast.com. Last time we added a
whole bunch of lines, they were all messed up (nynex) and had to be busied
out for a week before we could use them. We want the lines to be known
working for a few days before adding them to the system.
- Tuesday 06/18/1996 Research is underway for putting a 56k
circuit into Washington, to allow more callers. If you live in washington
and know the phone system well enough, give us a ring. Wherever it ends
up, that person will have a very high speed constant internet connection
free of charge. Primary considerations are: proximity to telco CO,
environmental conditions (temperature), physical security, and last of
all, involvement with the computer business.
- Monday Morning 06/17/1996 The new billing month began today
for 596, 236, 354, 845, 785 callers.
Time measuring software for all the modem servers was reset to zero at
shortly after midnight this morning.
- Thursday Night 06/13/1996 Sugar was upgraded from 24mb to
32mb ram to improve performance. 5 virtual webservers were offline for
about 5 minutes while this change was made.
- Tuesday Afternoon 06/11/1996 Nynex has our phone system
screwed up again. We once more asked them to remove the fax line from our
hunt group of voice lines and they did. They disconnected the fax line.
MIS got in touch with Anne Gethe at the Nynex Business Center, and
explained the situation and demanded the fax number be re-instated. The
saga continues.
- Tuesday Morning 06/11/1996 Nynex has our phone system (voice
phones) screwed up. Some callers get the fax machine. This was supposed to
be cleared up on monday, but they goobered big time. (again) Mike was the
rep this time, and the ticket number is D58F6248.
- Friday Afternoon 06/07/1996 Connectivity to the outside world
was interupted while we got a higher-speed T1 hooked up. The 20-minute
job turned into a 2 hour job as Nynex had a few things messed up at
first. My ear got sore talking on the phone, luckily things are all set now.
- Friday 06/07/1996 Nynex has our phone system (voice phones)
screwed up. Some callers get the fax machine. This was supposed to be
cleared up on monday, but they goobered big time. (again)
- Tuesday Morning 00:30 06/04/1996 Caffeine will be down for
aproximately 30 minutes while it's operating system is upgraded.
- Monday 06/03/1996 Nynex has our phone system (voice phones)
screwed up. Some callers get the fax machine. This was supposed to be
cleared up on friday, but they goobered big time. (again)
