June 1999
- June 29, 1999 Everybody with an @midcoast.com address should
have received a newsletter now. If not, we have a copy here. A special note - the
Damariscotta office phone number should have been written as 563-8563.
Wonder how that got by the proofreaders? :-)
- June 24, 1999 Liberty (589) Users - Extra speed is on order for
the 589 exchange. This is getting upgraded to a bigger internet circuit in
about two weeks according to the phone company's schedule. Thought it
won't change connect speeds, it will drastically improve throughput and
perceived performance, and allow for more lines to be added. This
upgrade will be similar to the upgrade we did in Washington a couple
months ago, but we anticipate it going much more smoothly.
- June 22, 1999 8:30pm - 9:30pm Dialup authentication services
were down for dialup users until . A remote client reffered in a
configuration file was not reachable. This caused the authentication
program to lockup, denying all logins.
- June 16, 1999 1:30pm The web server software on
kona.midcoast.com (a virtual Web Host) was restarted.
- June 8, 1999 596-2410, which is a hunt-group of ten V.90 lines will
go away in about a week. Please use another number, such as 593-9397 or 593-8000,
whichever works best for you. If this presents a problem, please contact us!

- June 8, 1999 12:30am. A ring no answer was fixed on one line in the 563-7330 hunt group.
- June 8, 1999 10:00am. The second T1 we use for an internet
connection is having some Bell Atlantic problems. (Same circuit as May 27
problem below) Bell Atlantic has been notified and is working on it and we
expect it to be fixed quickly. This affects some people's ability to surf
outside of midcoast.com. Our
proxy server can be used as a work-around. 11:00am - Fixed.
- June 8, 1999 1:30am. A reset of the telco equipment brought the circuit back. The "box" that
the telco uses to terminate the data circuit, had been set for a diagnostic mode as a result of the
electrical storm.
- June 7, 1999 11:30pm. The T1 circuit to Damariscotta is down
due to telephone company problems, probably due to the severe lightning.
This services Damariscotta, Wiscasset, and Union areas. We have reported
this to the phone company and expect that they are working on fixing it.
- June 2, 1999 12:05am. The T1 serving Damariscotta, that also serves Wiscasset
& Union, was moved to the new zoombrew router which was installed last week. This took
about 5 minutes and did not involve the phone companies thankfully. This change improves
the path for network traffic to and from the affected service areas.
- June 1, 1999 11:30pm There was a short outage on the T1 from Dama to Owls
Head. A reset of the line hardware in Owls Head brought the circuit back up. This
affected traffic to the Dama/Wisc/Union customers for about 5 minutes.
