- March 18, 2004 5:55-6:15am. One of the midcoast.com email
servers needed a reboot during this time. This affected mail checking
during this time for some users. No mail was lost.
- March 16, 2004 midcoast.com email addresses starting with
q,u,v,w,x,y, and z have been upgraded to newer server software which
includes free anti-virus email scanning and better spam catching.
The spam detection improvements involve using multiple blacklists that
increase the score of email if it comes from a known infected source
ip address of spam. This is important because a great deal of spam
comes via insecure or virus infected computers on the internet that
are exploited by spammers. This anti-virus software checks for more than
20,000 different viruses and is updated several times a day
automatically. Other midcoast.com email addresses will receive these
upgrades over the next few weeks.
- March 14, 2004 6:30-7:00pm. the server for midcoast.com
website and email had to be rebooted. A drive was changed and it was
started back up again. Email will be slow for a couple hours while
data is being rebuilt.
- March 3, 2004 There is a virus going around that falsely
claims to be from the midcoast.com staff, administration, management,
noreply, or support. Infact any domain name with these words after is a
virus. It uses a password protected zip file, which antivirus programs
aren't stopping well. Midcoast.com did not send this. Trash the message
and do not open the zip file.
- March 3, 2004 5:00 - 5:10am. The midcoast.com server will be
down for a couple minutes for a reboot. This is necessary for
installation of kernel security updates.
- March 2, 2004 10:00am There is an email delay which we are
investigating. Noon - this is fixed now. It was caused by an unusual
combination of virus and spam spreading customer computers that have
been identified and fixed.
