News & Notices
March 2000
- March 25, 2000 22:45-23:05. The router "wakefulness" was restarted and this caused trouble for some dialup
users during this process.
- March 17, 2000 The VW server pour is getting some house cleaning done. This will remedy the BBS problem.
- March 17, 2000 We have received a due date from Bell Atlantic of April 6th for installation of the
additional lines for the Wiscasset POP. This location services the 442, 882 and 633 exchanges.
- March 16, 2000 Washington users should stop using 845-2080 and
should use either 845-2002 (33.6) or 845-3050 (v90). 2080 is a subset of
3050 and 2080 isn't setup for enough lines. 2080 and 3050 are the same
modems and phone lines though, 3050 just has more. (about 25 lines), and
2002 has 48 lines.
- March 16 2000, 0:00 to 0:30, The T1 serving Washington and
Liberty will be taken down for more testing by Bell Atlantic. It is
continuing to have performance problems which cause the internet to act
slower than it should for the Washington and Liberty customers that use
the service.
- March 15, 2000 589-3003 is the new V.90 number for
Liberty. It was just hooked up and will be tested for a couple days
before we add it to our list of phone numbers. Feel free to try it and use
it if you have a liberty (589) number. If it works well, use it instead of
the other Liberty number.
- March 14th 17:45 Damariscotta : Since the move we have had
reports of both slower and faster connections by customers. We are
collecting connection speed data from customers who have kept track, and
are in contact with Tidewater to isolate why some are getting slower
speeds on both the 56k and analog lines. The move should not have changed
anyones connectability. If you have noticed a change in service, but have
not reported it, please do so.
- March 9th 17:45 All systems in the Damariscotta NOC/POP are
back on line. Please send in a Trouble Ticket Form to
report any problems you experience. Tech support is available on Thursday
nights at both MIS offices.
**It should be noted that Tidewater Telecom was instrumental in
facilitating a smooth and efficient cut over to the new facility. Thanks
Folks!**
- March 9th 15:30 Damariscotta - The 563-6644, 563-6622 numbers
are partially active. We are continuing to connect these lines and more
will be available as time passes, but users can expect Ring-No-Answer
until the job is completed. Given the complexity and scale of the move, we
are very happy with the progress.
- March 9th 11:10 The 56k/v.90 modems servers( 882,442,
563-6622,563-7999 and the Union 785-6622 are back and running. The leased
line connections are also up and running. We are still making the
connections to the POTS lines that answer to the 563-6644 and 563-7330
numbers.
- March 9th 8:00am *Very Important* The Damariscotta NOC will be
moving to the route one building in Damariscotta. In order to have the
full resources of both MIS and Tidewater available to make the move work
with as little interruption in service as possible, we decided to conduct
the move during normal working hours when we are all at our sharpest (well
most of us).
We anticipate that service will be out at least 2 hours, but perhaps as
long as 5, depending on progress of restablishing the circuits that feed
the POP. All dialup access for 443,882,633,563,586,677,644,529,785
exchanges will not function during the move. Several leased lines
will also be affected.
- Mar 7, 2000 5:30-8:40pm. The T1 between Washington and Liberty
went down. This caused people in Liberty to be off the net till it was
fixed. I was able to fix it by taking apart and putting back together some
of Northland's T1 equipment in Liberty.
- Mar 7, 2000 6:00pm DNS had some trouble and had to be
restarted. This affected browsing and email-checking for people between
6:00 and 6:20pm today.
- Mar 7, 2000 People in Washington and Liberty are having slower
than intended access. We've narrowed it down to a problem in the Bell
Atlantic data network which connects those towns back to Owls Head. Bell
Atlantic has been notified and they are supposed to be working on it. We
had similar problems on Dec 8.
- Mar 3, 2000 For a while this morning, people could not SEND
email who used midcoast.com for their SMTP server. The mail software has
been restarted and that fixed it.
- Mar 1, 2000 1:30pm. The T1 that serves Damariscotta was out for
about 10-15 minutes. The same errors that caused the problem last night
occurred again today. The replacement hardware is supposed to be in today.
We will be keeping close to this router in order to reset it when needed
until the replacement is put into service.
- March 1, 2000 11:55am. The wireless equipment on Ragged
Mountain was reprogrammed and might have caused a few seconds of outage
for people in Camden and Rockport who get routed through this connection.
(One of the radios there had previously been set for an invalid hopping
sequence which caused a couple minutes of outage on Monday afternoon.)
