March 1999
- March 30, 1999 A correction was made to the time machine, one of
the modem servers, grinder, was having it's time calculated twice. The effects
of this change will be in tomorrow's time report.
- March 29, 1999 Traffic to the GWI network was blocked due to a configuration change on the
GWI end of the peering connection. Corrections have been made to the routing and traffic is returning to
normal. Mail running between GWI and MIS will have been delayed this am, but should be despooled by this
afternoon.
- March 26, 1999 11am: Jacob and Jason replaced an access point
and wiring at the courthouse today. Some Rockland wireless users were
affected while this upgrade took place.
- March 26, 1999 Noon: The Time Machine on lincoln was not
including time from the new Wiscasset server, buzzbuzzbuzz.midcoast.com.
This has been corrected and the program is recompiling the time data.
- March 25, 1999 3:30 pm: A problem with the old Washington POP
(845-2080) was corrected, as the 56k went down. We encourage Washington
users to use the new number - 845-3050.
- March 23, 1999 8:37 pm: The new Washington POP is ready for
use. The number is 845-3050 and supports 33.6 connections.
- March 22, 1999 Wiscasset is without power. A "really big tree"
fell across Route 1 and took out power and telco lines. It may be quite a
spell before services are restored. Our data circuit comes from
Damariscotta, so it will be running as soon as there is power, but the
dialin lines come from the Bath side, so restoring services will depend on
Bell fixing those line. Update 6:30pm: Power is restored
to the Wiscasset POP.
- March 22, 1999 Liberty has had no power all morning. Our
Liberty 589 exchange POP functioned about 3 hours on battery backup power
and stopped at 10:51am. Power returned at 1:17pm. Washington residents
lost power but we have a massive battery backup there and our equipment
continued to run throught the day.
- March 22, 1999 9:00am A major power outage has occured in the
Damariscotta area. The Damariscotta NOC is now on generator
power.Update Power was restored at 10:55am, but we'll let
the generator run for a while.. :^)
- March 21, 1999 Trouble with 593-8000 has been reported to our
Bell Atlantic reps. Some people are getting a, "This number is not in
service" message, which is an obvious screwup of Bell Atlantic.
We are very unhappy with their handling of the problem. Update: This was
corrected by BA on Monday Morning.
- March 19, 1999 3:00pm : Jason and Jason went to Washington and
installed two carloads of gear for the new POP. Northand Telephone was
finishing the Bell Atlantic T1 which connects Owls Head and Washington.
Much to our dismay, Northland had not finished the incoming phone lines.
Hopefully they will get that done Monday. We're ready.
- March 17, 1999 11:00am : The hub in Liberty had to be shut down
and restarted. This affected logins for a few minutes.
- March 17, 1999 12:10am : All the Rockland modems will be
rebooted. This will take about 1 minute.
- March 16, 1999: Static IP users with 204.117.x.x numbers will
be given new ones in the morning. Till then you should use our Proxy
Server. Instructions are here.
- March 16, 1999: noon-ish, modem servers were adjusted for the
new settings caused by loss of 204.117.x.x numbers. This affected logins
for about 20 minutes. Also a router was rebooted at about 2pm, which would
have affected many things for about 20 minutes.
- March 16, 1999: The 204.117.57.2 number no longer works as a
nameserver. Use 10.0.0.1 instead. Instructions on how to change this were
provided about a year or two ago roughly. If you need assistance, visit
the help topics webpage or call our tech support.
- March 16, 1999: MIS heard from Bell Atlantic today regarding
Washington. CO testing will take place today, and then it's up to Northland
to finish the install. This should only be a couple of days.
- March 15, 1999: MIS contacted our Bell Atlantic rep again today.
She will call the person at Bell Atlantic atleast twice each day till
it's done. This is childish and a waste of our time.
- March 14, 1999: MIS contacted our Bell Atlantic rep again today.
She said that the person wouldn't expedite the Washington install, so it's being
unloaded onto someone else at Bell Atlantic.
- March 11, 1999: MIS has contacted Bell Atlantic reps
approximately twice each day, and have no word yet on the Washington
install. We want details, and can't get them from Bell Atlantic. We will
be contacting Washington customers in the next day or two by email and
issuing a partial refund, because Washington is simply messed up by the
phone companies and not working anywhere near the level which we want it
to. This was supposed to by complete February 20, and the utilities have
let us down.
- March 10, 1999: MIS staff took turns at the 1999 Chamber of
Commerces' Business Showcase. We've got a photo here that was on the homepage for a while on
March 10. The Business Showcase was an excellent opportunity to say hello
to our customers and friends, in person.

modem server (mug) on our new lines was corrected.
- March 8, 1999: 236-4098 is not work properly due to errors on
the part of Bell Atlantic. We have notified them and expect a fix shortly.
In the mean time, we are extremely thankful for the new Camden number
which is on our homepage. Update: Bell Atlantic has fixed it.
- March 8, 1999: The new v90 lines were increased from 46 to
92 available incoming lines. Their numbers are as follows:
593-9332, 338-8667, 236-2809, 832-5779.
- March 8, 1999: Additional problems with incoming mail were
solved by Sunday night. Some sites external to MIS were having difficulty
connecting to or finding MIS to deliver the mail. All systems are
operating normally at this time.
- March 7, 1999: My sincere apologies for having blinking text on
our main webpage. These new numbers are very important, and I'd like to
see lots of people using them if they can do so (call them if they are
local calls only, of course).
- March 6, 1999: The name-server software on lincoln was
malfunctioning during the day Saturday. Name lookups and some ,mail
services were troublesome during this time. It was successfully restarted
at approx 11pm. Thanks you to the folks that used the trouble ticket form,
the feedback helped to quickly track down the problem and effect a repair.
- March 5, 1999: Bell Atlantic has correctly programmed in the
numbers for our new lines. They are as follows: 593-9332 for calls
local to Rockland. For calls local to Belfast use: 338-8667. For
calls local to Camden use: 236-2809. For calls local to Waldoboro
use: 832-5779. This represents 46 lines hooked up. An additional 46
lines (for a total of 92 new lines) will be hooked up either today or
Monday.
- March 4, 1999: Bell Atlantic hooked up lots of new lines today
for Rockland, Camden, Belfast, and Waldoboro, but the numbers are not
programmed in right. We'll keep you posted. This is progress.(!really!)

Samoset. We will be providing access at the chambers' Business Showcase

free.midcoast.com was being worked on and was unresponsive for about 30
minutes.

-answer. It was fixed by 1 pm today.
- March 2, 1999: Wiscasset is now running on the new POP
systems. Please use the trouble
ticket form to report any problems. More info about the Wiscasset move is on a web
page. Click
here!
- March 1, 1999: Belfast just had 10 more modems
activated this evening. Please let us know if you encounter any problems
by filling out a trouble
ticket.
- March 1, 1999: The Rockland office has moved to the new Oak
Street location (yeah!). Unfortunately, our voice phone service had not been
moved successfully by Bell Atlantic, and we were without incoming
voice phone service. This was corrected by 11am.
