- May 31, 1998 Dama. Modems were dissconnected from the
phone grid for 20 minutes doe to extremely violent and localized lightening.
Service was restored at 8:30 pm. Some modems may have sustained damage,
please report connection problems in Dama via email or call the
Damariscotta office and leave a voice mail.
- May 28, 1998 Evening: Additional lines are malfunctioning in
the 354 and 596 hunt groups. We will be busying or replacing them
tomorrow with new wiring or modems.
- May 28, 1998 12 Noon Damariscotta. A modem rack is being
swapped out. This will affect 8 dialup lines for about 2 minutes.
- May 28, 1998 11:30am The Wiscasset POP is back online. BA
reports that "bad copper" was the cause of the downed cicuit.
- May 28, 1998 10:30am Some malfunctioning lines in the 354 and
the 596 hunt groups were fixed. We will be contacting USR/3com and the
phone company to inquire why the lines were malfunctioning after the
equipment had been replaced.
- May 28, 1998 10:00am 4 lines were fixed and 16 were added to
the X2 hunt group (593-8000)
- May 28, 1998 10:00am Wiscasset. The circuit is still down. BA
technicians have been working on the line since about 7:30am. Several calls were
made to the BA trouble center and notification was received at 9:30 that the
circuit is down due to a Telco equipment failure. Details were requested, but
not supplied. A time of repair was requested but was unavailable.
- May 28, 1998 1:15am Wiscasset. A Bell Atlantic
technician was unable to properly test the data circuit as no test equipment was
available at the Wiscasset CO. He had been called in from Augusta.
Rather than wake the dead, armies of guys in trucks will be on the scene
at 7am to address the problem. Initial indications are that one of the
"repeaters" on the run from the Wiscasset CO to the POP location has
failed.
- May 27, 1998 10:50pm Wiscasset users are out of service. The T1
circuit to the Wiscasset POP is down as of 9:30. A trouble ticket has been
issued by Bell Atlantic to investigate the problem. MIS equipment was reset and
verified prior to calling in the trouble ticket to Bell Atlantic.
Customers calling the Wiscasset POP will not be able to connect until this
problem is resolved.
- May 26, 1998 Washington users were out of service for a period this
morning. Bell Atlantic "accidentally disconnected" the data circuit while working
on someone elses disconnect request.
- May 25, 1998 This evening we corrected a problem with sendmail
email outside Midcoast from drip, espresso, and whoopie-pie modems.
- May 25, 1998 3:00pm. drip, espresso, and whoopie-pie modem
servers were moved over to the new MCI Boston T1. Once satisfied with its
reliability and performance, other modem servers will be moved to it.
- May 22, 1998 10:00am. Some numbers at the tail of the 596-2430
hunt group were flaked out because of the electrical storm last night.
These have been corrected.
- May 17, 1998 9:00am A problem with checking email was corrected. No
email was lost.
- May 17, 1998 2:30am Our main router was upgraded in preparation
for a hookup into MCI Boston.
- May 17, 1998 00:50am DNS upgrade was successful. The
motherboard was changed and things are running again 10 minutes after starting
the swap. This should provide more speed and reliability.
- May 16, 1998 11:00pm DNS went down for about 10 minutes
affecting login access during that time. It will undergo an emergency
procedure at Midnight as corrective action. (New Motherboard)
- May 14, 1998 11:00am - 1:00pm Some modem lines were out of
service for a short time while the modem server javajoe was replaced. This
should solve trouble some people had experienced with uploading by modem.
- May 14, 1998 8:00pm. DAMA The voice phone lines at the
Damariscotta office are acting
wacky. The phone system is incapable of catching your voice call, as the ring
signal is out of the standard range normally used. Tidewater is working on a
solution.
- May 11, 1998 11:00am. Three troubling X2 ports were
discovered and repaired. This will improve things for 593 and 236 callers.
- May 6, 1998 11:45am. The WebBBS had some technical trouble.
We are restoring it from backup at this moment and it will be online
with an hour or two.
- May 6, 1998 8:30am. A short problem with the email system was
corrected. This had prevented people from sending email from midcoast.com
for a couple of hours. Nothing else was affected by this.
- May 6, 1998 0:30am. www.midcoast.com will be taken
down for about 15 minutes for a major upgrade. This will involve moving
to a two processor, 300mhz Pentium II MMX, with 128MB of ram. (A fast
machine)
- May 5, 1998 10:00am. A power outage is affecting our Union
(785) POP. Most Union residents can call Rockland locally during the outage.
- May 1, 1998 9:00am. A problem affected the nameserver for
a few minutes and was fixed quickly. This would prevent people from
logging in while the trouble was present.
