September 2000
- September 27, 2000 5:50pm. Due to a Northland Telephone
problem, the 56k modem lines for Washington and Liberty are not working.
The 33.6 lines for Liberty are also not working properly because the T1
between Washington and Liberty is also out of service. We'll keep you
posted. Details are sketchy because their office phone number is busy
right now, but there is not much we can do about it. A customer told us
the next day that this was the result of a fiber cut.
- September 26, 2000 7:30pm. The Mail Server was reset. Sendmail
was not allowing mail to be sent. The same problem happened around noontime.
- September 26, 2000 6:15pm. Our Damariscotta modems had trouble
logging in after the reboot of dns, so that software has been restarted,
and Damariscotta users can dial in sucessfully now.
- September 26, 2000 5:15-5:30pm. dns (the main midcoast.com
server) was restarted. During this time, most internet browsing was
affected.
- September 26, 2000 11:00am. We now have dialup service (and
wireless) on Matinicus Island. The phone number there is 366-3540. People
on Matinicus are not able to call any other phone exchanges without a
toll.
- September 26, 2000 9:58am. The 845-3050 modem server in
Washington was restarted. It was having a problem authenticating.
- September 25, 2000 9:00pm. A modem server was rebooted at this
time to try and resolve a problem reported. Occasionally callers to
563-6622 are getting no response. No beeps, blipps busies ... nada.
Tidewater is looking into it and trying to replicate the problem. We will
update as the situation warrents.
- September 23, 2000 12:30pm. DSL in Damariscotta is having a
problem, which we are working on. Looks like a failed piece of hardware on
our end. A new piece is being configured and being sent from Rockland to
Damariscotta. 2:20pm. The spare equipment (CSU/DSU) fixed the problem, and
DSL in Damariscotta is working fine again.
- September 19, 2000 3:15pm. The Union 785 number is down.
The phone company called, they said the Town dug up the phonelines.
They have people enroute to fix it.
- September 12, 2000 8:00am. The T1 to Washington and Liberty
is not working. This has been reported to Bell Atlantic to be tested.
Update: 1:30pm. I tried several times to get ahold of Bell Atlantic (now
called Verizon) and got ring-no-answer. Eventually got through and was
told it's still being worked on. Update 4:40pm. I talked with Verizon/Bell
Atlantic and it hadn't been tested yet by them, so the rep tested it while
I was on the phone and suspected it was a Northland problem. Northland had
called our office and told someone it was fixed prior to this. Northland
had also told mutual customers that the problem was fixed, which is
totally incorrect. This is the place to learn about the status. Update: 6:30pm.
Northland has fixed the problem. This was a problem resulting from a switchover
to different equipment this morning that didn't work as they had planned.
- September 7, 2000 2:30pm-4:30pm. We had a problem with the
Union numbers this afternoon (785-6622). We're not sure what the cause of
the problem was, but we called Tidewater and gave them an opportunity to
investigate, but didn't hear back. We ended up resetting everything to
clear the problem (it's happened before and that fixed it). It is working
fine now.
- September 6, 2000 1:00pm. Northland performed an upgrade on the
T1 from Washington to Liberty with out any troubles.
- September 5, 2000 6:00-9:00pm. The T1 between Washington and
Liberty went down. This caused people in Liberty to be off the net till it
was fixed. Apparently Norhtland tried to perform an upgrade on the T1.
They will try the upgrade again tomorrow.(This time with a little help
from MIS)
- September 4, 2000 00:30am. The modems in Owls Head (593-9332
and several other numbers) will be shutdown for a moment to move them to a
larger UPS we have recently acquired.
- September 3, 2000 8:45am. The battery pack in one of the UPSs
issued a warning and was replaced with a spare. No service or power was
loss while changing batteries.
- September 2, 2000 6:00-6:30pm. The generator was tested in Owls
Head. There was no interuption in service and the generator and the
loads handled the power quite well. Our transfer switch indicates that we
use 3000+ watts constantly, every hour of every day. We test our
generators every couple of months to be sure they function properly and
everything is together (fuel, funnels, switches, oil, wiring) and working
so there won't be any suprises when we actually need to use it.
