wes and cathy's big adventure

we are now home but want to share some pictures of our last week in the congo

this is a view of bethel

the highlight of our trip was an overnight stay at a missionary home in kinshasa

this missionary home is the site of the first branch office in congo.

there are four bedrooms, (one is a guest room) a kitchen and a dining room.

three missionary couples live here. two from france, two from italy and two from the us
they go out in service every day unless it rains really hard. it rained on saturday, so we got to visit a little.

larry and patricia wingo from france. patricia worked with cathy in the sewing room and they got along very well.
larry was at bethel for 8 weeks teaching ministerial training school.

anna and alberto pederzolli from italy. anna had a bad cold and stayed in her room most of the day on saturday

jeff and carla peloquin from strubridge massachusetts. they have been in congo for 18 months.
when the subject came up among the missionaries as to what to feed us, they said, "burgers and fries!"

mookie is an outside dog, but it's ok for him to have his snout on the kitchen floor.
the bethel homes and missionary homes all have dogs for security. he doesn't look that scary just now.

weston went on a bible study with jeff on sunday after the meeting. we sat under a tree and finished the brochure.
during the study, i let the man use a french bible i had picked up in brooklyn.
when we were done, he was handing it back and i said, "non, non, pour vous." he did not have a bible of his own.
he kept saying "c'est benediction, c'est benediction!" (it is a blessing)

the girls gave cathy and patricia a going away party. there were plenty of tears and hugs.

there is a bible verse that says there is more happiness in giving than in receiving.
we met the happiest people in the world in our assignment in congo. they enriched our lives more than we can say.

we get asked, "will you go back?" well, there's really no way to pick up where we left off.
we may reapply for international work and be sent somewhere again next year; wherever the need is.
if we do, we'll have a different adventure, and that's ok; adventure is the unknown.
