From 1975 through 1994, I lived and practiced in Denver, Colorado. In 1995, I moved my residence to Maine, where I was born, and now practice full time in both states. I provide a full range of legal services for the resolution of commercial disputes, ranging from the resolution of simple contract cases to complex construction and professional negligence cases. Throughout my legal career, I have represented my clients in disputes involving savings and loan mergers, corporate acquisitions, deceptive trade practices, Civil Rico and shareholder/director litigation. I have practiced as head of my own firm and as a partner in Hopper, Kanouff, Smith, Peryam and Terry in Denver, Colorado, a firm which specialized in securities and banking law. From 1991 through1992 I headed the litigation department at Burke & Castle, P.C., a firm which specialized in the representation of mortgage lenders.

Throughout my career, a substantial portion of my practice has involved representing owners, developers, general contractors, sub-contractors and bonding companies in the resolution of construction disputes. I have successfully handled the prosecution and defense of multi-million dollar claims in both bench and jury trials as well as complex AAA arbitrations in all phases of construction litigation. These cases include the foreclosure of mechanic liens, performance and payment bond litigation, CPM scheduling, claims presentation, school construction, masonry disputes, pipeline construction, architectural malpractice and delay claims.

As a partner with the firm of Hopper, Kanouff, Smith, Peryam and Terry, I handled the defense of securities cases for the firm's broker/dealers. These cases involved violations of NASD, AMEX, and NYSE regulations, the Securities Act of 1933, the Securities and Exchange Act of 1934, and the Colorado Securities Act. The cases involved issues of corresponding broker liability, 10b(5) claims, suitability issues, negligence, fraud, and deceptive trade practices in NASD arbitrations and Federal Court litigation throughout the central and western United States.

While with the firm of Burke & Castle, P.C. I managed complex litigation involving the Resolution Trust Corporation, governmental consolidation of failed lending institutions, loan workouts, foreclosure litigation, deficiency claims, denial of loans, defamation of credit, and government seizure of property under the drug enforcement laws . I both defended and prosecuted substantial claims on behalf of lending institutions and the government.

Other areas in which I have practiced for many years involve professional negligence suits against attorneys, architects and engineers, personal injury litigation, and representing plaintiffs in suits involving sex, race and age discrimination in both Federal and State Court.
