Growing Cut Flowers
We have compiled an large list of cut flowers with growing information and bloom times from our own experience and research here in Mid-coast Maine. Your results may be different depending on your climate and location.

Links to Books and publishers online:
The Taylor's Guides include a master volume and individual books on subjects ranging from garden design and techniques to individual types of plants.  The information is accurate and condensed with picture plates that demonstrate the different species and varieties clearly.

Random House has published numerous garden books including ones by Roger Phillips and Martyn Rix on vegetables, herbs and perennials.

Storey Publishing & Garden Way Publishing, in Pawnal, VT publish practical books on most every garden subject.  They also publish several hundred Garden Wisdom pamphlets that are short and to the point providing the essentials on gardening, land management, crafts and using and preserving the harvest.

Rodale publishes the Problem Solver series for vegetables, flowers and landscaping including useful techniques, answers to what went wrong and how to's.

Reader's Digest Home Handbooks are informative, creative and easy to read and use as reference materials.   The Organic Gardening and Herb books include detailed information, pictures and charts that will simplify and speed up the learning process.

Magazines:

Country Living Gardener magazine has valuable information for home gardeners of all levels.  The photo essays and features contain tips and ideas that are directly applicable.

Horticulture Magazine contains precise, and advanced articles on a variety of topics.  It contains good reference materials including the advertisements.

Organic Gardening is a Rodale Press publication with many valuable articles and regular features.

People, Places & Plants contains specific gardening information for Maine.  It includes timely schedules of events and articles relating to techniques and plant selection for Maine gardeners.

Garden Style, (publishers of Horticulture) has documented articles on design and color and the pictures are realistic and depict designs that are attainable. 

Kitchen Garden connects what you grow and how you grow it to how you use and prepare the harvest.  It has reviews and practical information covering herbs and vegetables, projects and science.

Organizations:
University of Maine Cooperative Extension Service - Sponsored by the University promotes learning of organic growing techniques through the Master Gardener program, work shops and literature.   Most helpful in solving problems and identifying diseases and insects.

Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association - MOFGA is the organic growers organization that oversees the organic certification process in Maine, sponsors education on organic growing and holds the Common Ground Fair.
