Diary of Jewel page 1/ page 2/ page 3/ page 4 April 29 While Intrepid and Kat are out galloping, Jewel and he colt are coming along. Jewel is quite sore, being a maiden with a big baby, but she is getting happier every hour. We take her for walks and grazing every few hours. She loves the grazing, would rather not do the walk part as much. But, it is working, she is much better after each walk and our big Clevie boy is enjoying his runs as the photo below shows. He is at 2 days here. I know he looks light, but he is really bay! We are working on names for him. He needs a strong one for such a strong boy. Right now we have Harrowgate(town in Yorkshire) and Justice as top two choices. We welcome email on his name! Thank you to everyone that has written us about the diary. It makes it all feel worthwhile. We are thrilled to have 2 such beautiful babies!
May 2 Now things are getting fun. Both colts are developing their personalities and they are very different. We have decided on Tide's End Marriner for Jewel's boy. Cappy for a barn name...you know Captain...get it? Thank you for all the suggestions people. We had a panel of 5 here and to get a concensus was brutal! Kat has a phobia about the camera. all she has to do is see it and she simply is camera shy. Such a lovely mare to be camera shy! I'm afraid I'm not getting as many photo's of Intrepid, but hoping we have a better day soon, weatherwise, I can grap some more when she isn't watching. Meanwhile, Cappy is checking out some flowers sent by Jewel's family in MA to honour his birth.

May 4 Days are just whizzing by and I'm afraid "dear diary" gets left! The boys are growing by the hour I think. Mares are settled well into motherhood and I still haven't caught up with sleep. It is great fun to watch personalities develop. Cappy is more methodical, not prone to quick burst of energy, more likely to canter this lovely balanced slow canter around mom. Intrepid loves to leap, run into mom and from 0-60 in 1 second. Both are sweet and inquisitive.Trep is eating more hay than any foal Iremember at this stage. It is fun to watch Kat and her colt eating side by side. Cappy naps more than Trep, but is active when not asleep....wondering if the extra napping is the extra Cleveland blood?! We are rotating them into a bigger space. Jewel and Cappy have moved to aq bigger paddock, Kat(sometimes prone to loving to run too much) is going soon. I hope to have the mares reunited with their babes shortly. Below Intrepid at 10 days.
May 5 Both boys got their first worming today...loved that! They were trying to get rid of that taste for awhile. the mares had the shots the vets would not do before foaling, so poor Kat went into her whole sore neck thing. that is simply Kat. I think Trep helped her work it out quickly. The boys are trying to figure out the eating thing still. Intrepid, as I said is wolfing down hay. Cappy is still trying to figure the chewing thing out. But then when it come to grain, Cappy is jumping into the feed tub to help mom. Kat loves her grain and Ithink is not quite so sharing. If she doesn't share soon, guess her baby will get his own feed to nibble on. Molly and I laugh at the attempt of the boys to eat grass. they are succeeding, but it was rough to start with. Both had some topples on their noses trying to sort out long legs! Below Intrepid...
