The boys are getting used to an everchanging world. They were introduced to rain showers, mosquitoes and hot sunny days. Today was especially exciting for Intrepid. He had the farrier pick up his feet and put a rasp on each one. I have been working on him getting used to picking up feet, but to have a weird smelling man with shoeing equipment work with him was totally new. He was wonderful...just a pull with one foot. Not really a trim yet, just getting used to the experience. Cappy will get his chance the next visit. Wish I had a photo of farrier, but I do have one that Molly took of Trep combining lying down with easy nibbling. As you saw from earlier shots, getting around long legs is hard. He discovered he could nibble laying down.

We started putting the 2 moms and their colts out together today. We left both on leads today to just get used to each other as Jewel was the totally dominant one with Kat before the mares foaled. Jewel kind of glared Kat down. We plan to continue using food as the main ingrediant to keep the peace. That doesn't work as well for Kat, but Jewel being cleveland...food is all. Below Jewel, in her new halter, taking a nap with Cappy.

Cat and Jewel are very different mothers. Both are good, just have different theories about raising children. Jewel is more laid back about life and Kat is probably over protective. Jewel would be the mother at the park who sends her child out to the swings and says, have a good time...you are a big boy now. Kat says to her boy...now be careful, you don't want to fall off the slide! Ok, maybe the heat is getting to me. Make a long story short, Jewel and Kat are working this out. Problem is, Jewel does like to protect food and space, so she makes runs at Kat. Kind of takes Trep by surprise. So we settle Jewel at food and keep a lead on her so the boys might get a chance to see one another. Cappy is first to approach Kat.

Knowing Kat, this is not really a worry. she is very kind and I can't imagine she will do anything to hurt Cappy. He gets closer and I actually hold my breath when it looks like he is checking Kat out to nurse on her and Kat isn't saying no....but thank goodness he decides Kat does not smell like mom. I didn't want to have to split that one up! Kat is funny, she is happy to have Cappy with them, but she still wants her baby on one side and Cappy on the other.

Finally, some sun!!!!!!! I guess our growing number of clevelands(7) has brought some long stretches of rain to us. i'm allowed to make fun of the weather now that I'm married to a Brit...aren't I? On to the boys....they are almost growing overnight! Personalities emerging more each day. Funny, we never grow tired of them. Trep has stood up to mom about grain and now they eat together from the same tub. I was teaching him to eat from his own, but it's much more fun to share with his mom. Now Cappy can actually chase his mom from her grain. He can get too full of himself...must be the extra cleveland blood! He has gotten so big he is making Molly look small. Here he is at 5 weeks

Really nice to have the colts out all day. These temps in the 40's and pouring rain was starting to get everyone down! More and more people are approaching the boys and they thrive on attention. We are careful it is always good attention, but we are trying to expose them to new things and noises. We give them toys, switch environments and they explore on their own. Trep decided to jump a pile of jump poles....guess he is thinking eventing too. Looked good to me! Of course he is still working on long legs and eating....illustrated below...
