The Mildred Stevens Williams Memorial Library in Appleton is raffling a Maine Authors signature quilt for their new library capital campaign. This is the culmination of months of work by Susan Sherman (project organizer) and Molly Leigher (designer and assembler). Other contributors were Linda Upham who monogrammed the title and Darlene Starett who machine quilted the border.

The wall hanging (50"x54") is the "broken cup" pattern and Maine authors have signed 118 of the triangles. The signing authors represent many writing styles and live all across the state. Often the authors added messages or drawings with their signature. Included with the quilt will be a scrapbook of this project and several of the author's books. The scrapbook has a page for each signing author with photocopies of their square and any notes they sent, plus a list of their books.

We are very excited with this quilt for many reasons. It is a wonderful collaboration of authors and libraries. It will be an historic record of Maine authors of 2003 and, of course, raise funds for our future building. The quilt will be raffled, with tickets sold at local events including the Maine Wild Blueberry Festival in Union. The winning ticket will be drawn at our 5th annual Souper Supper in January 17 of 2004.
