Malone
Boatbuilding was founded in 1979 by Bruce Malone. Growing up in
Wolfeboro, NH on beautiful Lake Winnipesaukee, Bruce developed a love
of the water and boating. After acquiring a degree in mechanical
engineering at UNH and working for several years in Boston and San
Francisco, he moved to Camden, Maine in 1976 with the idea of building
wooden boats. Bruce worked at various boatyards and learned his
craft from some of the old time boatbuilders most notably from the
Newbert & Wallace Yard in Thomaston.

Bruce Malone at Rockport Harbor |
| In 1979, Bruce started a one-man
shop in the barn next to his mountainside home, building the classic
Rangeley Lake Guide Boat. By 1988, the business had expanded to
include larger wooden boats, as well as repair and restoration, and
required larger quarters. In 1989, Bruce built a new shop and moved
into his present location on Route 90. The site is only a few miles
from the centers of Camden and Rockport and provides easy access to
both harbors. |
