Alewife 5K Run a Success
The Medomak Valley Land Trust, Quebec-Labrador Foundation, and the Lloyd Davis Trust partnered to host the first ever Medomak River Alewife Run 5K on May 16th to celebrate the alewife migration and local restoration efforts. For details and link to photos, click HERE.
3rd Annual Alewife Count
Each spring alewives return to the Medomak River, trying to reach their upstream spawning grounds. As part of local restoration efforts volunteers have been helping count the fish on their journey upstream. This is the third year of the count, which is a project of the Lloyd Davis Anadromous Fish Trust's Medomak River Alewife Enhancement Project. Volunteers work in two hour shifts to count the fish as they pass through Waldoboro. To learn more about restoration efforts, see number's from each year's alewife count, and a video of the 2007 run, visit the Alewife Enhancement Project website.

'Conservation in Context'
This spring MVLT hosted 'Conservation in Context', a series of events that explore our connection to the land through various media, including literature, film, and photography. Following each of these events, participants were invited to look closely at their own backyards and communities, and to send photos and thoughts about what they find beautiful to volmvlt@midcoast.com. To see the photos that people sent in after looking closely at their own backyards, click here. This series was made possible in part by the Maine Humanities Council.
