Get Involved!  Become a mvlt volunteer

In order to accomplish its conservation goals, the Medomak Valley Land Trust depends on the service, skills, and creativity of volunteers. We have both ongoing and one-time volunteer opportunities spanning a wide range of activities and interests, so there is sure to be something for everyone. Volunteering at MVLT is a great way to learn new skills, meet new people, and have some fun while helping to keep Maine beautiful. We're saving a place for you!

To become a Land Trust volunteer:

Fill out a volunteer interests questionnaire. This will allow us to contact you when opportunities arise that match

      your interests and expertise.

Peruse our lists of current and ongoing volunteer needs and email volmvlt@midcoast.com or call 832-5570 if you

are interested in helping out with any of these projects.

 the summer

Videographer

We are looking for a volunteer who is interested in filming some of our events and creating short videos about MVLT to be shown on public access television. It would be great to find someone with experience, but if anyone is interested in learning that's great too!

We also have an ongoing need for help in the following areas:

Trail Construction and Maintenance

Join a group of trail volunteers for a work day, and help us create and improve the trails on MVLT properties. Projects can include cutting and clearing brush, painting blazes, hanging signs, and building bridges or other structures. See our trail work schedule for more information and a list of upcoming work days.

Commitment: occasional work parties, attend when available

Easement Stewardship

Conservation easements held by land trusts must be monitored to ensure that unauthorized activities do not occur. All MVLT volunteer stewards are assigned to a specific property and are trained to identify any changes or violations to the easement, as well as to record the information in a standardized stewardship report.

Commitment: multiple years

Fish Counting

Help count fish throughout the spring alewife run on the Medomak River. Volunteers work in 2-hour shifts counting alewives as they pass through a narrow gate below the counting platform off of Mill St. in Waldoboro.

Commitment: short training plus one or more 2-hour shifts in May

Outdoor Program Leaders

Organize and lead walks, paddles, or other recreational or educational events throughout the watershed.

Commitment: plan and lead one event

Office Assistance

Help with newsletter and membership mailings, filing, and other tasks necessary to keep our office running.

Commitment: weekly/as needed

Event and Preserve Photography

Attend and photograph an MVLT event, or visit one of our properties to document some of the scenery and wildlife. Photographs may appear in newsletters, brochures, or other publicity materials.

Commitment: occasional

Event Planning and Assistance

Help us to plan, organize, and coordinate one or more of our annual events. This can include attending meetings, creating and distributing publicity materials, and attending the event to oversee its success. Additional assistance may also be needed with set-up or clean-up for certain events. Help out with an event that matches your interests, or suggest an idea for a new event that you would like to help organize.

Commitment: varies- can help with one event or many, and be as involved as you like

Publicity

Write press releases, create and distribute posters and flyers for our events, or serve as a contact with other organizations that might be interested in our activities. We often need volunteers familiar with MVLT to help staff our information table at events.

Commitment: can be ongoing or occasional

Other

If you don't see the right match for you here, or if you have a particular skill that you would like to offer, we would love to talk with you about your interests and how you can help!
