Here are a few of the many email messages that we have received in response to the Nancy's New Beetle page

My 70+ old father, a genuine car nut, bought a new 1998 Beetle. It's red, with a beige interior and has everything I could imagine. We went to a concert in Raleigh, NC (about 1 1/2) from where my father lives. We rode on I-95 and I-40 and I wasn't too sure we would get there in one piece!! Once in the parking lot, we had at least 10 people ask my dad about the car. Now he is waiting for an automatic with a sun roof. Hope you enjoy your car.

Hi Nancy,
We're a bit overwhelmed... we had a new delivery tonight just after 8 PM!! A Silver TDI New Beetle weighing in at a mere 2700+lbs. Both Car and Driver are doing fine, but the wife is trying hard not to admit this new addition to the stable has a serious "cute" factor.

More to follow as it happens!! 8-)

Hi Nancy,
Great web page!! I love the design. I would love to know how to set up a page for my new Bright Blue New Beetle. I have attached a jpg of it when I picked it up in april.

I thought the photo of your new beetle and the old one was very cool. I drove a 1972 super beetle for 10 years. It was my "photo car" and now I have a nice new photo car...I am a photographer for a large newspaper here, and driving my new car has been an absolute trip to say the least. I'm sure you've found the same thing. It is a daily EVENT to drive this car going to and from my assignments. I love this car!!

I also had the CD changer put in....when I got the car. I love that too....it never skips or anything.

Sounds like you're getting fantastic gas mileage with your new TDI. Great...51 mph....unheard of, for sure. Mine is the standard gas engine but I was even surprised at my gas mileage. The figures they give are 24 and 29 and so far all my tanks have been in the 28 mph range with one at 29.5 and a couple at 26.5 and 27.8. Most of my driving is in town stuff with some highway use as I make my way around the area going to my photo assignments.

I also cannot believe how quiet and smooth this car is. I can hardly hear the engine. I've been at 85 mph in the rain and it felt secure and safe....and I have no problem getting up to speed and blending into traffic from an interstate on ramp. And you're right, the car is an attention getter. I've had governors and all kinds of people fawning over my car and people every day, and if I stop, a crowd forms almost every time. What fun.

I have "Bug Pwr" for a license plate. Do you have a special plate for yours?

Well, enough for now....congrats again on a great web site...well done...

Cheers, and happy driving!!

Thanks for the info on your New Beetle. Sounds like quite a car. Please keep me updated. I also am thinking about a Passat Diesel, but it is not available in the states yet. Do you get as much attention in your Beetle as everybody around here does?

An impressive web page devoted to your new gem. The performance review is a nice touch. You might check in J.C.Whitney for some rubberized rocker panel moulding (appx 8" wide x 1/8" thick x so many feet long) might work for the "running boards". I don't recall any problem negotiating over them however, but maybe I was being careful. Any plans to include some of the mail you receive from others?
I hope the convertible doesn't take the new acquisition personally.

Hi, I am Carolyn. I live in Minnesota.
I took possesion after being on a list for 2 years of Bugzie April 17. Bugzie is a gas with a 5spd. Yep, I agree, what a great car. I get the thumbs up, peace signs, waves and of course smiles where ever I go.
My best story, I found a gentleman under my car with a group of about 5 men standing around it at Arbys at lunch. The men came from different cars but all seemed to be drawn to Bugzie at the same time. As I was walking to the car, I set off the panic alarm. (smile) I finally got a chance to get even for all the finger prints and questions I always get. The men jumped back but this person on the ground could only scoot and look up. I asked him what was he doing. He was trying, for the crowd, to figure out if the engine was in the front or the back.
Standard speech, engine in the front, I love the car, good tunes, can move, has heat and air, and might float upside down. I do have a rattle by the hatch, and I will need to have sprayers for windows adjusted. I noticed back window wavy. From what I have seen at different sites, rattle is common and a quick fix, wavy is noticed also but no one knows why. NIce letting you know about my bug and I like your web site!!!

My name is Tyler and I'm 13. My parents let me order a New Beetle TDI and it arrived April 10, 1998. It is a beautiful Red one with Black interior. It is a 5-speed, has power windows, and the Sport Package. It is great! I have the only TDI in my area. My family hasn't taken it on any trips yet but around town we have gotten 41 and 46 mpg. The first one was because it wasn't full when we got it. Another thing is you got your New Beetle on my birthday, Apr. 24, 1998. That's neat. Hope you enjoy your car.

I hit your site today and was wondering about the performance of your diesel bug. How much power does it have in comparison to the regular fuel version? I ask because I test drove the automatic and was deeply disappointed... Did you test drive both and compare, or was it purely a money-saving issue?
BTW: You're site is the only one I've found that has any real information regarding the TDI.

Hi,Nancy.
I just saw your site on the Webring and would like to know how you like your new Beetle. Here in Oregon the Diesel is not available yet so I would like to know how it runs and how much miles per gallon you are getting. I am going to get a white diesel later this year and would like to know what to expect. Thanks!
Ed

I have a black NB too! Check out Scooter
BTW, I too have a squeak in the radio, but I don't have much hope the dealer could fix it. Lemme know how they do. In fact, try subscribing to the mailing list at newbug@lists.best.com. We all talk about our NBs, problems, fixes, etc.
See ya!
