Silvia Carrier received her college degree in architecture in Dortmund, Germany. She practiced architecture both in Germany and the United States before pursuing her Art interest as North Haven Community School's Art teacher for seven years. Her interest in ceramics and her architectural education led her to experiment with the clay slab building techniques, resulting in the "Island Creatures, Island Sounds" collection, as well as the Decorative Plates and Wall Art. All ceramic pieces are created and fired in Silvia's studio space adjacent to her gallery on North Haven Island, Maine.

Carrier Ceramic opened its gallery on August 10, 2001 on North Haven, Maine. North Haven is an island located 12 miles off the coast of Rockland, Maine. North Haven serves as the perfect setting for creativity with its natural beauty and peaceful surroundings. Carrier Ceramic has scheduled gallery hours only during the months of July and August. During the rest of the year the gallery is open by appointment or simply stop by. To get to the gallery from Rockland, take the Maine State Ferry . The ferry ride is approximately one hour long. The gallery is a short 15 minute walk from town along Upper Main Street. Please e-mail us for more information.
