Food and the aroma of cooking can be a powerful link to memories of times past. This collection of recipes started out as an attempt to bring together those favorites that I remembered growing up with. I spent a lot of time as a kid hanging out in the kitchen with Mom, watching her make all sorts of wonderful meals and helping when I could!

With her passing, I was terribly afraid these memories would fade and be lost for all time. That's when I discovered the simple and the obvious: when I recreate these foods from my childhood, the memories become real again and I can see her hands working the dough, or stirring the pot; I can hear the laughter and voices, and for a moment I'm transported back in time. And when I share these meals with others in my family, the memories become fresh for them as well. Cooking is such a wonderful thing!

But cooking is a living art and as such is constantly changing and growing. I've taken the liberty of adding my own new favorites to the list of old, making this an extension of Mom's favorites.

I still have Mom's well worn red apron, dusty with flour, and memories of apple pies and roast turkeys. With that, I dedicate this collection to the memory of my Mom, Dorothy E. (Dottie) Lund 4/18/1923 - 12/8/2002, the greatest mom, and best cook I've ever known!
