Garbage and Solid Waste Disposal : Owl's Head, along with it's neighboring towns of South Thomaston and Thomaston, is a partner in the Cooperative Transfer Station located on Buttermilk Lane in Thomaston. Residents of the three town Cooperative use this facility for disposal of household trash, tires, white goods and to participate in a recycling program designed to reduce the overall costs of trash disposal.
Residents are urged to recycle old newspapers, magazines, bottles and cans in an effort to reduce the negative impact of trash disposal on our environment as well as reduce the costs of handling the trash which is shipped to the Penobscot Energy Recovery Cooperative by truck. Waste disposal to the P.E.R.C. facility is based on a fee per ton basis so recycling reduces the tonnage shipped to the facility, and alleviates the tax burden to residents while helping the environment. Recycling saves!
To use the Transfer Station you must have an authorization sticker attached to your windshield. These stickers cost $2.00 and are available at the Town Office.
Owls Head maintains its own Stump Dump which is available to the residents of the town. Users of the stump dump must have a stump dump authorization sticker attached to the window of their vehicle, these free stickers can be picked up at the Town Office. Items that can be disposed of at the facility are old boards, etc., with a complete list available here.
