FIND OUT WHAT MAINE GOVERNOR ANGUS KING

AND OTHERS HAVE TO SAY ABOUT

WINDJAMMING IN MAINE

   Dear Friends:

For the last three years, I have officially declared July to be Maine Windjammer Month with good reason. No other cruise lets you escape so completely from the pace of the modern world in such a spectacular setting. A windjammer cruise combines the wonder of Maine's renowned beauty with the majesty of these turn-of-the-century sailing vessels.

Long before the advent of railroads, these sailing ships provided transport for lumber, granite, ice and other cargoes. Without them, the economy of this country would have taken a very different turn. But you don't have to read about them in a book. Here in Maine, we've preserved our maritime heritage and welcome you to come share in its adventure.

The Maine windjammer fleet is the largest and oldest fleet of commercial sailing vessels in the country. Windjamming offers a unique opportunity to discover the magnificent rocky coast, uninhabited islands, rich fishing waters and the glory of these old ships. Mainers are known for their independent spirit. Likewise, each of the vessels is privately owned and operated promising vacationers a unique and intimate voyage which is both relaxing and personal.

As you plan your vacation, I encourage you to discover the wonders of the Maine coast from the decks of Maine's historic windjammers.

"One would think that, after sailing with you ten times over the last twelve years, the thrill would be gone. It is a tribute to you, your schooner and lovely Penobscot Bay that the exact opposite prevails. We'll see you again soon." Whit and Nadine W., Illinois
