Built in the 1830's and filled with antiques, the Weskeag Inn has that romantic charm of another age. The location, at the edge of the salty Weskeag estuary at the reversing falls in South Thomaston village, is unforgettable! It is on Route 73; described as one of "Maine's Most Scenic Roads" in a book by John Gibson.

Personally, I think the St. George Peninsula, reaching out into Penobscot Bay between Thomaston and Rockland is the best! There are spectacular ocean views, access to beaches, art galleries and beautiful things to inspire an artist to paint or photograph and 2 lighthouses that you can go right up to. The villages of Owls Head, South Thomaston, Spruce Head, St. George, Tenants Harbor and Port Clyde are wonderful each in their own way, and, at the end, the ferry to Mohhegan Island waits for you.

The reversing falls behind the inn is a constant source of fastination! In winter, we love to watch the ice breaking off and flowing by - often with a sea gull or two along for the ride. In the spring when the stripers come in, the banks are lined with fishermen; and in the summer we swim there and sometimes ride the current in an innertube. I've seen young men tie a rope to the bridge and surf on the current which comes in at 14.5 knots at its peak. The rest of the time we watch the birds that fish there - great blue herons, egrets, eagles, osprey, and of course many kinds of sea gulls.

This could be you.

"You can't get there from here" doesn't apply here. It's easy to get here - good roads, a convenient airport . . . and it's easy to get to other interesting places from here, such as the famous Wyeth Center at the Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland, Owls Head Transportation Museum, and nearby islands (Vinalhaven, North Haven, Monhegan). With our 8 rooms, it's ideal for family reunions or conferences and retreats.

The inn is 85 miles north of Portland, (half way between Portland and Acadia National Park). We're surrounded by beautiful and interesting places that make people want to return to Maine as often as they can. The Weskeag Inn is a great place to drop your bags and call "home" while you explore the area or just relax in our back yard. Lots of books get read by people sitting in our lawn chairs down by the water!

We offer some discounts and specials: Longer stays are easier for us too, so we offer a 10% discount starting with the third night - or 1 night free if you stay a week! We also offer an Outward Bound discount, Historic Inn's coupons, and group rates.

WITHOUT GETTING BACK INTO YOUR CAR, explore:
Weskeag Inn's waterfront and antique cars
South Thomaston's public boat launch
Keag store (buy lobsters - they'll cook em!)
Eat at our picnic table overlooking reversing falls
Old Post Office Art Gallery
Keag Pottery
WITHIN 2 MILES explore:
Owls Head Transportation Museum (OHTM)
Birch Point State Park Beach
Waldo Tyler Wildlife Sanctuary
James Beard Award Winning Restaurants: PRIMO and Waterman's Beach

There's a deck with a view, a spacious back lawn that ends at the Weskeag River's reversing falls (great for weddings!), lots of books and videos to enjoy in the library, and a piano waiting to be played. Internet service to check your e-mail or plug in a lap-top. Cable TV is available in every room upon request.

We hope you'll come and stay with us while you enjoy "Maine, the way life should be."
